Field evaluation of a rapid antigen test (Panbio™ COVID-19 Ag Rapid Test Device) for COVID-19 diagnosis in primary healthcare centres.
2021
Abstract Objectives To our knowledge no previous study has assessed the performance of a rapid antigen diagnostic immunoassay (RAD) conducted at the point of care (POC). We evaluated the Panbio™ COVID-19 Ag Rapid Test Device for diagnosis of coronavirus 2019 disease (COVID-19) in symptomatic patients (n = 412) attending primary healthcare centres. Methods RAD was performed immediately after sampling following the manufacturer's instructions (reading at 15 min). RT-PCRs were carried out within 24 h of specimen collection. Samples displaying discordant results were processed for culture in Vero E6 cells. Presence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in cell cultures…
Patients' and physicians' preferences for type 2 diabetes mellitus treatments in Spain and Portugal: a discrete choice experiment.
2015
Objective: To assess Spanish and Portuguese patients' and physicians' preferences regarding type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) treatments and the monthly willingness to pay (WTP) to gain benefits or avoid side effects. Methods: An observational, multicenter, exploratory study focused on routine clinical practice in Spain and Portugal. Physicians were recruited from multiple hospitals and outpatient clinics, while patients were recruited from eleven centers operating in the public health care system in different autonomous communities in Spain and Portugal. Preferences were measured via a discrete choice experiment by rating multiple T2DM medication attributes. Data were analyzed using the cond…
Predictors of the application of exposure in vivo in the treatment of agoraphobia in an outpatient clinic: An exploratory approach.
2015
AbstractObjective: Although exposure in vivo is considered to be the most effective therapy component in the treatment of agoraphobia (AG), there is a remarkable lack of its application in psychotherapeutic routine care. We examined the severity of anxiety, psychological distress/comorbidity, therapeutic process/alliance, and sociodemographic status as potential predictors of in vivo exposure. Method: We applied correlational analyses and logistic regression analyses in a sample of N = 92 patients (main diagnosis AG) in an outpatient setting. Results: Logistic regression analyses did not yield any significant single predictors, whereas a combination of a subset of predictors significantly p…
Efficacy of Therapeutic Intervention in Headache Units in Patients With Frequent Headaches: The EFUNCE Study
2006
Data confirming that therapeutic intervention in headache units is superior to care received by patients in other levels of the health system are scant. This is a pilot study that includes patients seen in 4 headache units for at least 1 year, who had a headache frequency of more than 15 days per month. The results of the first 30 patients showed a significant improvement in different headache parameters and a high degree of satisfaction with the treatment received.
Value of Home Blood Pressures as Predictor of Target Organ Damage in Mild Arterial Hypertension
2002
Home blood pressure measurement has gained increasing importance for the management of hypertensive patients. The aim of our study was to compare levels of clinic (CBP), ambulatory (ABP), and home blood pressure (HBP) measurements, and their relationships with various indexes of target organ damage in I-II grade essential hypertension.Thirty-eight essential hypertensives underwent evaluation of clinic, ambulatory and home blood pressures. Each patient recorded HBP for 2 days with a digital BP monitor three times daily, the first time on the same day during which ABP monitoring was simultaneously performed. Moreover, in all subjects electrocardiogram recording, echocardiographic study, micro…
Clinical usefulness of the screen for cognitive impairment in psychiatry (SCIP-S) scale in patients with type I bipolar disorder
2009
Abstract Background The relevance of persistent cognitive deficits to the pathogenesis and prognosis of bipolar disorders (BD) is understudied, and its translation into clinical practice has been limited by the absence of brief methods assessing cognitive status in Psychiatry. This investigation assessed the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the Screen for Cognitive Impairment in Psychiatry (SCIP-S) for the detection of cognitive impairment in BD. Methods After short training, psychiatrists at 40 outpatient clinics administered the SCIP three times over two weeks to a total of 76 consecutive type I BD admissions. Experienced psychologists also administered a comprehensive ba…
Multidimensional assessment of OCD: integration and revision of the Vancouver Obsessional-Compulsive Inventory and the Symmetry Ordering and Arrangin…
2010
This article reports on the integration and revision of two self-report measures of obsessive-compulsive symptoms based on data from an obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) sample (n=228): the Vancouver Obsessional-Compulsive Inventory (VOCI) and the Symmetry Ordering and Arranging Questionnaire (SOAQ). The revised measure provides scores on five symptom subscales (Contamination, Checking, Hoarding, Symmetry and Ordering, Obsessions). It shows improvement upon current versions in several ways: it has a good model fit, eliminates redundancy, reduces overlap across subscales, is much shorter, and covers those OCD dimensions most frequently identified in factor-analytic studies. Strengths of th…
Intraperitoneal Onlay Mesh Technique for Spigelian Hernia in an Outpatient and Short-Stay Surgery Unit: What's New in Intraperitoneal Meshes?
2018
Spigelian hernia (SH) is a rare entity, but its surgical treatment is essential because of its high complication risk. Laparoscopic approaches have become the option in elective surgery because it has less morbidity and requires a shorter stay. Several laparoscopic techniques have been employed, but there is no gold standard technique for this kind of hernia. We report, in this study, our experience with intraperitoneal onlay mesh (IPOM) repair.Fifteen patients underwent elective surgery for SH between 2008 and 2015 in a Short-Stay Surgical Unit. Laparoscopic IPOM technique was performed in all patients. The technique, epidemiological data, operative findings, hospital stay, morbidity, and …
Evaluation of two instruments of perceived symptom intensity in palliative care patients in an outpatient clinic
2015
Aims and objectives To evaluate the test–retest stability in assessments of perceived symptom intensity on the Edmonton Symptom Assessment System-revised and the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer, Quality of Life Questionnaire Core 15 Palliative. The possible interchangeability between the instruments and the patients’ experiences of completing the instruments were also studied. Background The two instruments assess the same symptoms, but the symptom intensity is assessed on 11-point numerical scales on the Edmonton Symptom Assessment System-revised and on four-point verbal descriptive scales on the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer, Quality…
Prognostic factors of macrophage activation syndrome, at the time of diagnosis, in adult patients affected by autoimmune disease: Analysis of 41 case…
2016
Macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) is a rare, life-threatening disease in which early diagnosis and aggressive therapeutic strategy may improve the outcome. Due to its rarity, epidemiologic data are still lacking. Hyperferritinemia is frequently associated with MAS and might modulate the cytokine storm, which is involved in the development of multiple organ failure. In this paper, we investigated clinical data, treatments, and outcome of a homogeneous cohort of 41 adult MAS patients, complicating autoimmune rheumatic diseases. MAS-related death occurred in 17 patients (42.5%) during the follow-up, and older age and increased serum ferritin levels, at the time of diagnosis, were significan…
